Skin temperature, pH and even diet affect how quickly the individual notes unfold. That is why a scent never smells exactly the same on two people, and that is exactly what makes it yours. So always test it on your own skin.
As an Eau de Parfum it lasts about 6 to 8 hours on the skin, often much longer on clothing. It is clearly noticeable for the first 1 to 2 hours, then gradually stays closer to the skin. Exactly how long depends on your skin, the weather and the amount. Tip: spray on wrists and neck and don't rub.
Spray it on your skin, not on paper, and wait at least 30 minutes. Only then do the heart and base notes appear, and those are what others smell on you all day. The safest way is a sample you wear for a few days: 2 ml sample for CHF 5, fully credited when you buy the bottle.
If you want a scent that smells like you rather than mass-produced, yes. With big brands, a lot of money goes into advertising and licences. With niche perfume you pay more for ingredients and production, and the chance that someone wears the same scent is much smaller.
